Wykonaj ten zabieg jeszcze przed zimą! Czym i jak ściółkować glebę?

Ściółkowanie to ważny zabieg dla ogrodowych roślin. Warstwa odpowiedniego materiału nie tylko ochroni nasze uprawy przed ujemnymi temperaturami, ale również utrzyma wilgotność gleby na właściwym poziomie. Warto wykonać ten zabieg jeszcze przed zimą. Jak to zrobić? Jaki materiał na ściółkę wybrać?

Po co ściółkować rośliny na zimę?

Ściółkowanie gleby wokół roślin ważne jest z dwóch powodów. Po pierwsze, rozłożona późną jesienią warstwa ściółki pomoże utrzymać uprawom ciepło, zabezpieczając przed mrozem i śniegiem. Po drugie, materiał ściółkowy umożliwi utrzymanie odpowiedniej wilgotności gleby. To ważne, gdyż w zimie roślinom szczególnie trudno jest pobierać wodę z podłoża. Istnieją jednak jeszcze inne zalety ściółki! Utrudni ona rozwój niechcianych roślin, tak zwanych chwastów. Dodatkowo stwarza idealne warunki dla rozwoju organizmów poprawiających jakość podłoża. Gdy zimą wyściółkujemy glebę, dżdżownice i inne stworzenia spulchniające ziemię będą mogły spokojnie przetrwać zimę. Bardzo ważne jest również, że z czasem ściółka się rozkłada, co dodatkowo wzbogaca podłoże. Dzięki temu będzie ono szczególnie odżywione na wiosnę, co stanowi idealną kondycję na pierwsze wysiewy w nowym roku.

Materiały do ściółkowania – co wybrać na zimę?

Materiały, którymi wyściółkujemy roślinę na zimę, powinny zarówno izolować od mrozu, jak i przepuszczać powietrze. Nie mogą też zatrzymywać zbyt wiele wilgoci w podłożu, aby nie doprowadzić do gnicia upraw. Na zimę nadają się ściółki z następujących materiałów:

  • biała włóknina;
  • dojrzały kompost;
  • igliwie i szyszki;
  • kora;
  • liście zdrowych drzew;
  • niezadrukowane kartony;
  • słoma;
  • trociny;
  • worki jutowe bądź wykonane z włókna kokosowego;
  • wytłoczki do jajek z makulatury;
  • zrębki ze zdrowych drzew.

Najlepszy efekt osiągniemy, gdy zrębki, korę czy trociny wcześniej przekompostujemy. Gdy natomiast wykorzystujemy igliwie czy korę z drzew iglastych musimy mieć na uwadze, że te materiały zakwaszają podłoże. Wyżej zostały wymienione także materiały półorganiczne oraz agrowłóknina, która jest elementem nieorganicznym. Na zimę nie poleca się stosować folii, ponieważ utrudnia ona przepływ wody i powietrza. Można ten materiał wykorzystać natomiast w sezonie wegetacyjnym, a więc wiosną i latem.
